Messages that target both women and men that are presented in magazines and advertisements are to be better. There is always something that they will be missing. If there is a product for them to buy they may never look as good, be as rich, be as interesting or stoic as the people that are portrayed in the image whether those people that are shown are real people or not but by buying the product or doing what the advertisement suggests that the people do that see it they may be a step closer to what is shown than they were without. An advertisement shows a life better than consumers. One where they could look better. This assuming that the advertisement suggests that these people are not attractive or unhealthy. Making them buy the product because no one wants to feel like they are a lesser human being. Advertisements also stigmatize things that are completely natural and are not wrong at all to affirm a status quo that is used to sale a product. Bumps on people’s faces are seen as dirty and ugly. I have had acne for a long time no matter what I do to my face. This makes people feel ugly I know in my life I have had this issue of how I looked because of the bumps on my face.

Advertisements for most products show white skinny women, and muscular white men both with pure with no marks on their skin. Never in physical illnesses. They might have tattoos but that is it. This shows that just not being white is the norm but a skinny or muscular weight is more preferred. Eating disorders are dangerous to people’s health and can end in death (Lind 31). A lot of the time people are talked about having eating disorders but other things can but factors too. Some people might take steroids to become more muscular. To gain more muscle in high school I did not only lift weights I had drank a lot of muscle growth proteins shakes even though this was for football a wanted my body to be a certain way. I did not have a flat stomach like most skinnier guys are seen to have in media so I was made fun of by my football teammates during practice for the body type that I still have.
