Projects for capacity building go through a process. In the process of establishing sustainable projects, there are five steps to follow. First, build rapport with the owners, staff, and shareholders of the organization. Secondly, gain insight on issues, resources, and relevant information, through tools including SWOT Analysis and Ethnography. Thirdly, find out what this institution wants to achieve from tools such as Value Chains and Needs Assessments. Fourth comes designing prototypes of various project ideas and making adjustments with tools like Force Field Analysis and Business Model Canvas. The last step is the execution of the project. This fifth and final step can be displayed by showing the stages and resources need through the project process through an Innovation Flowchart.
Training is the delivery of skills to targeted clients. Training starts with identifying issues and what skills are desired for this entity. After identifying subjects, it is time to research said subjects. While gathering information, it is important to create and or collect resources for trainees. These resources make the training more sustainable and are references to keep up with the information that was taught. Trainees should not only be trained on certain topics but can in turn train others in those matters.
Organizations depend on funding to continue their work. Grants are useful for organizations to receive funding from government and private charities. Grant writing is useful in reaching out to these providers. Individual donors serve as benefactors to causes that they believe in. Many small institutions that are not businesses like libraries, hospitals and schools can benefit from Income Generating Activities. Income Generating Activities or IGAs help fund small organizations or groups to sustain their enterprises. These IGAs are essentially small businesses that create revenue for these organizations. These can be short terms like fundraisers or a long term production of products that an organization is known for selling. For long term merchants, it is good to look at what kind of organization it is and what product fits that organization. For example, a library can sell its own coffee mugs and bookmarks. It is also a good idea to see if anyone or that group as a whole has any skills that can be utilized. Are there any crafts like pottery or knitted hats that someone or people can produce in that organization?
Behavior Change Communication is a collaboration of methods and techniques in creating healthier behaviors in a community or organization. These approaches create a system of social impact through marketing, media and community awareness. Through resources like posters, videos and community activities education of topics can be integrated into the lives of the people that the messages serve.
Inclusive economics includes all members of a society to sustainably prosper from the economy. According to the Rockefeller Foundation, there are five characteristics of an inclusive economy. The first characteristic is that anyone can participate as a consumer, employee or owner. The second is that there are equitable resources for the disenfranchised. Thirdly, there is a growth of career opportunities as well as increases in incomes. Fourth, is that these economies are stable through hardships and are able to allow the public to trust in them. The last is sustainability. Sustainability is maintained through the focus of available resources and the long-term effect that the economy has on the community.
The success of the project needs to be measured through M&E. Monitoring and Evaluation is an assessment on projects to improve how their effects are managed. Monitoring looks at how a project is maturing and growing. This process also indicates the continuous success or failures that happen during the activeness of the project. The evaluation looks at what objectives were made. It fits catered impacts on the activities of the project.
