Media's Cultural Importance on the World

It is important to learn about gender, ethnicity, and class in the media because these are the topics that shape our lives. The way that these subjects are taken and expelled to others through multiple forms of media is how we see each other. People with excess to so can use media outlets to their disposal and create messages that depict who they are even if they do not mean to. For example, someone might put a video on Facebook and it might be them talking about how much they enjoy certain support. Anyone can have access to this video if it is open to anyone through this person’s Facebook page. If this person who is talking about certain types of sports that they enjoy is female, then this video could enhance people’s views of women in sports. If this person is a transsexual female that participates in sports with other females this might bring up the discussion of transsexual athletes in sports and what this might mean for the future of sports. Media can be used to shine a light on topics and issues that normally are not discussed or are found to be taboo. Media can also be used to show a certain group of people in a negative type of way. This can be stereotypes about what people of marginalized through in form of media like how African Americans could be seen negatively through music, television programs depicting them negatively and the wording new casters choose to use on the compared to European Americans that do the same crimes.

Cultural studies approach takes from other studies and practices to create the information that is needed(Nelson pg.2). I think that this is a holistic approach to finding information to build on ideas. I use this all the time when I am interested in topics. Finding information from multiple disciplines that connect works because if these subjects are found to be known in many areas their just seem even more factual. Media is all about presentation. People use it in so many different ways and include messages with different technics It is important to look at any many different ways also to find the multiple meanings that might be included.
