The School of Hope fosters education for many young children in Jocotenango, Guatemala, and surrounding areas to learn and grow through life. Supported by the non-profit Education for the Children and its respective donors, The School of Hope's dedication to education and services for children is only possible through the relentless efforts of each student. All children and young adults that receive assistance and resources from the school impact the school through their stories and experiences. The more we know about our students, the better chance we have of supporting and nurturing their needs. We care about every student that we can reach in our mission. Each student's life is diverse and unique to them, with opportunities and challenges.

Jorge Ivan is one of many talented and bright students at The School of Hope. Jorge age 12, has been a student at the school for the past 4 years. As of now, he is in the 6th grade. He enjoys English class the most, out of all of his subjects. The best thing that he loves about English is the ability to understand and communicate with others. Jorge said “I enjoy learning more and more every day.” When he is not at school or with his family he is working part-time as a shoe polisher.

Jorge attends The School of Hope with his two younger siblings, Carlos, age 10, and Abby, age 8. They live together with their mother, Alexandra, in Vista Hermosa. “My children are able to have an opportunity to grow now in ways that were harder for me, thanks to this school,” said Alexandra.

Vista Hermosa is a hillside community near the school in walking distance, like many other communities impacted through Education for the Children Foundation.

Jorge has plans to further his education to become a lawyer. He understands the focus and motivation through his studies that it takes to achieve his goals. Jorge is a hard-working, kind and thoughtful young man, who wants to better the world and contribute to the human condition. Jorge like many of our students strives to reach new heights and create better opportunities for themselves and their families.
